Trust us; this is a huge deal. Each year, the worlds of fashion and interior design excitedly await this announcement from Color Central, aka Pantone, to gauge what kind of True Fashionista purchases consumers will be making. Then they deliver accordingly so that you can discover the hot color among the collection of purple-flavored designer clothing, accessories, and home décor at True Fashionistas, Florida’s largest designer resale and consignment store.

It’s finally here, and (Swarovski-covered drum roll, please) the Color of the Year is PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri! Got to hand it to the Pantone people for their description, as we directly quote from their website, “A New Pantone Color Whose Courageous Presence Encourages Personal Inventiveness And Creativity.” Yes, with the caps, ThankYouVeryMuch.

So yeah, it’s going to be a purply kind of year, and we’re excitedly looking forward to it!

PANTONE’S 2022 COLOR OF THE YEAR: FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Pantone Color Institute Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman offers her perspective, “As we move into a world of unprecedented change, the selection of PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue color family, encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time with its violet red undertone, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions.”

PANTONE’S 2022 COLOR OF THE YEAR: DEEP DIVE INTO THE MEANING

For further explanation, Pantone (the company in general) continues, “We are living in transformative times. PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri is a symbol of the global zeitgeist of the moment and the transition we are going through. As we emerge from an intense period of isolation, our notions and standards are changing, and our physical and digital lives have merged in new ways.” Pantone also mentions that Very Peri illustrates the fusion of modern life and the manifestation of True Fashionista color trends into the physical world, and vice versa following gaming trends. PANTONE’S 2022 COLOR OF THE YEAR: AS SEEN ON CELEBRITIES

Public figures have already been spotted sporting this lively color, right back to Vice President Kamala Harris, who wore a custom Christopher John Rogers purple coat and dress to the presidential inauguration back in January. Lining up with the definition of Very Peri, Harris’ color choice aimed to bring together red and blue, symbolizing the country’s major political parties coming together during a divisive time.

Then there’s the fact that it’s just plain striking on a red carpet, as Zendaya modeled at the 2021 BET awards in a vintage purple-shaded Versace dress. WWD reports that Actress Anya Taylor-Joy chose the color at the CFDA Fashion Awards in November, where she was awarded the Face of the Year Award. Taylor-Joy wore the color in a custom bustier-style cocktail dress with a plunging V-neckline under a peplum jacket designed by Oscar de la Renta.

And leave it to Lady Gaga to rock the color on a recent press tour for House of Gucci. At the film’s London premiere, the singer-actress wore a purple draped maxidress made in silk chiffon with a flowing cape from Gucci’s spring 2022 ready-to-wear collection.

WWD further reports other stars who have worn iterations of Very Peri on other red carpets this year, like Olivia Rodrigo at the American Music Awards, Camila Cabello at the Met Gala, and Kumail Nanjiani at the premiere of Eternals.

PANTONE’S 2022 COLOR OF THE YEAR – DESIGNER OFFERINGS

Valentino’s spring 2022 runways were teeming with Very Peri, and no surprise it was found in their Fall 2021 collection as well. Trust your fave designers to be on top of and ahead of their game. Alberta Ferretti showed the color in their spring 2022 show, as did Prada, The Attico, and Sebastian Milano. We’re all looking toward an optimistic future, and Very Peri provides that uplifting feel.

Sourcing Journal reports that Marques Almeida’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection featured variations of purple-blue hues on coats and matching accessories. Acne Studio applied the color to silky button-down shirts, while Isabel Marant used it in iridescent form for True Fashionista day-to-night joggers. The color juxtaposed acid green in Germanier’s line and aqua in Anna Sui’s.
