PAJAMAS AS DAYWEAR – YEAH IT’S A THING

What?! Pajamas that are totally acceptable to be worn in public? It’s a dream come true! Face it, this was bound to happen sooner or later with the rise of athleisure along with further reasons to chill inside like binging Netflix, social media and video games. Designers are out to reflect our habits and capitalize on them, cranking out comfy wear sleek enough to be seen in outside of the home and in your Instagram feed. Street-ready pajamas come in a variety of fabrics–from cotton all the way to high-end silk–that make it possible for True Fashionista pajama lovers to enjoy even more. Along with having a style for every consumer, the versatility of the pajama is another key component that makes this trend so easy to adopt.

The pajama has actually come a long way since your basic two-piece set and classic nightgown, says The Avenue Magazine, from camisoles, dusters and tons of styles and lengths for bottoms ranging from floor-length to all the way up. The pajama had proven its versatility with a myriad of textiles that effortlessly transform into daywear given just the right accessories and shoes, even heels.

CR Fashion Book shares a parade of silky stars with Prada’s line of satin pajamas featuring wide legged and high-waisted trousers, a set with pants cropped above the ankle paired with matching purse, chunky heels and drop earrings, as well as a slip dress finely accessorized and matched with classy boots. Elsewhere from the CR people comes the suggestion to throw a robe over a simple tank and jeans and voila! Street-ready! Try True Fashionista designer PJs with sneakers and futuristic sunglasses to make a daytime ensemble worthy for the rest of the world to admire.

Pajamas have become such the rage that the list of designers jumping into sleepwear style is extensive, and has been offered each season for a good few years now. Everyone’s in on the craze, from fashion industry mainstays like Marc Jacobs, Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana and Prada to many other up and coming designers like Gilda Ambrosio and pajama-specialty label For Restless Sleepers. It was back in 2012 that celebrities like Rhianna, Victoria Beckham and Stella McCartney started wearing them. Notably in 2016, Dolce and Gabbana’s summer “Pyjama Party” collection sported the slogan, “Underwear as Outerwear Done Right.” A 2017 Chicago Tribune article also discussed this new trend, aaand it was ON.

The Avenue’s Alexa Portigal describes model Gigi Hadid’s pajamas look from 2018, having been photographed wearing some of the cutest and most trend-setting pajama looks out there, “In this particular look, Hadid embodies all of our fantasies about the ‘I just got out of bed and I look amazing’ look. Her hair is pulled back, showing off her fresh, and natural makeup. The pajamas themselves are styled in a relaxed way, unbuttoned and loose to provide comfort and style. Her makeup and accessories are dressed down, however, Hadid dressed up this look by wearing strappy heels to give some dimension to the outfit.”
